HOOK N WOOD Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 I have a 221 starcraft islander , i just bought a panther marine model 35 power tilt and trim also a mercury 9.9 four stroke to use for a kicker. My question is how far down should the motor be mounted on the transom. Thanks for your help
Eyefull Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Most are mounted so that the trim plate is at or just below the bottom of the hull.
HONDAM Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 What he said, cavitation plate even or just below the bottom of the boat. The main thing is that you have to make sure that you can get it completely out of the water when underway, this is very important. If you have to mount it with cavitation plate above the bottom of the boat to do this then fine thats what you have to do. Also need to make sure that the kicker wont come out of the water when it gets rough, its kind of a balance that you have to make. The bracket usually have more then one set of holes incase your figures are off a little one way or the other but this is just a plan b, just in case. Here is one i did a few years back on a different bracket.
