drift Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Fished st joe tuesday from 8:00-1:00. Ran down to the A frames where the water was very clean and 50 degrees but the fish were non existent. We pulled lines and fished the dirty water out front where water temps were 56-58 and had fish on the screen. We ended up 7 for 8 in 3 hours fishing. Only kept 1 decent coho about 3#, the rest were 10"-12" throwbacks. 2 and 3 colors of leadcore and riggers at 15 down were best. Couldnt get a bite on a body bait so we switched to all mini spoons.
fishsniffer Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 very nice..thanks for the report bill..cant wait to hit the water with ya
SUPERTRAMP Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Glad we just got the boat into the slip and chose not to fish Tues afternoon. If weather permits will be going over later this week possibly Friday to install some new electronics and maybe fish the morning.
Just Hook'n Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Nice work. I would have never guessed spoons this early.
scgibby11 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Nice and thank you.I was out Monday and am planning to go Friday. Here are my thoughts, and I'd welcome others input:I'm planning to head out to a bit deeper water and to fish like it were early May. I might even try South Haven instead of the Joes. This hot weather and VERY warm surface temps have made the set up strange this year. I just wonder if the bait and bigger fish are schooled up in deeper water. At the very least I'm going to find the western edge of the dark river plume. I agree that the clear water looked barren on my graph and the dark river water was lit up on the graph. However, those salmon were tiny, and hard to get many hookups. What do others think?Scott
medic Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 IMHO, a bad day fishin is still much better than a good day at work!! LOLI'd give it a shot.. Just because you're not marking anything, doesn't mean you won't hit fish!! I know of a charter captain that fished into December out of Manistee and was getting decent fish deep on a regular basis..
drift Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 scott,I agree with the offshore fishing. I talked to charlie @ Fishinghole today and he said some charters were getting fish 17 miles off shore. If I were to go of St Joe anytime soon it would be deeper water until i found some colder water.
