ALLEYES Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Does anyone know how to transfer old Loran C cords to new Lat. Lon. Coords ? I have a note book with old Loran C numbers for wrecks and fishing spots on the Gulf of Mexico off from Florida. I would like to be able to transfer over to my Garmin or Lowrance.
Line Dancin Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I asked my dad as he did this years ago when he changed from Loran to GPS.He said he called the local coast guard station and got a decent guy on the phone that sat down with him and showed him the conversion but has no clue how to do it now. So i did a quick search and found three good articles on what you have to do. Here are the links. I know when we did it the converted numbers got you close but not spot on. Don't use the converted numbers for blind navigation as they are not accurate my dad said. I was in school the summer he went through all this and wasn't on the boat much that year so i didn't see what all he went through.http://www.ehow.com/how_6586661_convert-loran-gps-numbers.htmlhttp://www.fixya.com/support/t808238-converting_loran_numbers_gpshttp://www.loran.org/ILAArchive/Other%20Documents%20of%20Interest/Coordinates.htm
