Knot Tellin Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I don't have a temp prob on my boat and was looking at Fish Hawk TD to atleast have something. What do you guys think of these units and is there any alternative products out there.
Priority1 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Keith, Here is a thread about that same subject that is still fresh and active.http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25196I think the probes are a useful tool. If there is other gear that you need I'd buy it first. Most of the time you can get the information you need by asking on the radio. I do have an older Fish Hawk that came with my boat. I don't know of any alternatives to the probes that would provide temp and speed at the ball.
Paulywood Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I used the predecessor to this (can't recall the name right now) and it was a useful tool. Good to have as much info as possible.

I can't afford one but would like to know where the temperature breaks are atleast to start. Where I fish there generally are not that many guys out to ask.
Priority1 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I think there were some temp devices available but have went the way of the nickel beer. Cabela's used to have one but not anymore.
Priority1 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Keith, My apologies. I didn't know Fish Hawk made that device. It looks cool.
Nailer Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 I have one and love it. When fishing an area without good intel. I send it down before setting up, find the break, and target that. Some guys use them to learn where there stuff is running. I haven't tried that yet. We use the diver rods, and gps to manage our speed.
BenLubbs Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Keith, I have one also and I agree with Ken. I send it down when I first set up to find the thermocline. It is easy to use and has a 5 year warranty (though I don't think it includes loosing it overboard )
