Hotdog71 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Has anyone ever touched up the coating on a shimano reel before? Is it even possible? What products are out there that could be a possiblity? How about getting an Okuma it's color back? Any thoughts? I know it's all cosmetic, but just curious.
Willie Bee Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 For the Okuma and Diawa reels the color will come back with WD-40.
killerbe20 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 anyone ever try a magic eraser? I have not but it seems to do anything else you want....magically!
Reel Screwd Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I have some stuff called trim renu i bought a ford van that was all set up for mobile detailing and had tons of detailing supplies, it works great on reels....
Reel Screwd Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 here is a link for the trim re-nu it is some really good stuff http://www.wattsmotoringaccessories.com/trimrenu.html
Hotdog71 Posted February 11, 2012 Author Posted February 11, 2012 How about repairing chips out of the paint?
medic Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Bob,For chips I'd suggest maybe some nail polish? If you can get close in color anyway.. And for restoring the color, Eagle One makes a product that is made to restore faded black plastic on cars. New Black (?) or something like that.. It works GREAT and doesn't seem to wear off/out. I found it with the car wax at Wally World..
Hotdog71 Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 Thanks for the suggestion, you wouldn't know a nail polish that would match a Tekota? It's chipped out along the top were someone hooked the lures.
mriversinco Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 +1 on the trim renu but it might make the reel a little slick in that area. How about a permanent marker for the chips in the graphite?
medic Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Not my color, brother!! ROFLMAO!!You'll have to troll the cosmetic isles yourself!!! ;-)
medic Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 But I'm guessing it's somewhere in between Goth black and hot tuna!!! Bwahahahaha!!!!
Hotdog71 Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 Yeah..... I'll get back to you on that one ;-)Maybe I'll ask my sister to check it out.
medic Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Yeah..... I'll get back to you on that one ;-)Maybe I'll ask my sister to check it out. *Free 6 month renewal of man card*
Rough House Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 ive tried the wd-40, armor all, and trim renew but as soon as I get back out on the lake the fade back right away. Tried some olive oil and it worked like a charm. of course it was the end of the season last year so that might have something to do with it lasting longer but everybody has olive oil...
