steeliebob Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Very soon I will be venturing out to set tip ups for one on Michigans most sought after game fish the steelhead. Within the next few days we should have enough ice to make an offshore trip possible. Most people catch steelhead in the rivers in the spring and fall on typical fishing gear. They are also caught while trolling on the great lakes. Very few people fish for them during the winter which makes it a challange as well as fun. You can catch them in a few feet of water so you don't have to risk your life or your gear to go after them on first or last ice. I can go all winter long and seldom if ever see another ice fisherman so there is not much competition.
