Eyefull Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Here's a photo of a fish my buddy caught last week on the St. Marys River. Any guess as to what it was? I'll post what the DNR said it was after everyone chimes in. I never heard of such a fish. Sorry, that is the best photo I recieved.
jerryriggin Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 king coho cross or king pink cross or pink rainbow
fishsniffer Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 its ugly as hell so it must be a captain catfish:thumb:
EdB Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Hard to see it markings but I'll guess either a Pinook(king/pink cross) or an Atlantic salmon.
pbrktrt Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Looks 1/2 catfish 1/2 brook trout. Probably looked better in the pan.
tbromund Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 the large spots on the tail suggest pink salmon, but the rest doesn't really look like a pure hen pink salmon so I'd agree with the majority that it is probably a pink/chinook hybrid or "pinook". Unfortunately, it's really hard to see any detail in that pic to say for sure.Tim
NO MO BEGGEN Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 is it a walltrout the cross of a walley and trout
Eyefull Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 The DNR biologist confirmed that it is in fact a "Pinook" like many said. Never seen one of them things before, or even heard of them. I told him either way, it should go on the wall.
NO MO BEGGEN Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 well that would make it a wall trout then wouldnt it lol
sherman51 Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 looks like a steel vardin (dolly vardin x steelhead) the tail looks alot like a dolly but the rest is anybodies guess. but then there all guesses,LOL. maby some old timer will chime in with the right name,LOL.sherman
