Flyboy Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Thinking about adding some meat rigs to the arsenal next year, whats everyone's top color/setups?
Eyefull Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Big Weenie brand rigs are by far the best out there. Going with a black mamba, green frog, or any of the krystal or white flashers is a can't miss on your deep rigger.
mattmishler Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Rapture hypnotist 3 teaser with a john king mag glow white meat head on anything green or white flasher on a 50inch teaser rig. Purple haze on a UV purple plaid with a mag clear head
DarkBlue Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Big Weenie and John King's are both great products. Black mamba, green frog, white/crystal are all great producers.

jerryriggin Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 all of the different brands of meat rigs work. the best changes day to day sometimes just like anything else. i run jk, big weenie, big water and some of the old twinkie twinkie rigs and they all catch fish.
tltorrice Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 We run meat rigs every time we go out. Usually two meat rigs. All of our meat rigs are from Captain John King. Our go to is a red double glow meat rig with a Big Als silver holo flasher on the down rigger. We will usually run another meat rig on a Dipsey Diver on the opposite side of the boat behind a Spin Doctor. Other good colors for us have been gold and silver with green teasers. Color just depends on the day.
JWheeler Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 (edited) Spin Dr - Black / Double Crush Glow trailed by the moomoo has been hands down the best meat rig for 2 years for me. Edited November 23, 2011 by JWheeler Propper Spinnie labeling / moo moo pic
Dagwood Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 How do you run a meat rig? Like a f/f? What is the go to meat?
mattmishler Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 We buy blue label whole herring, cut it into fillet and place in meat head with a tooth pick.A meat rig is typically run with a 8 to 13inch flasher, with 1to3 teaser on a 35-65inch leaders. Our best flies are our best meat rigs
Salmon Assassin Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I was surprised no one mentioned brads cut plugs
JWheeler Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I was surprised no one mentioned brads cut plugsOr Scarpace rigs. We tried them this year and they worked too
HONDAM Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 We sell the whole herring and the strips. Our most popular by far is the strips because they are already prepared and so easy to use. No fileting or brining needed. The whole we do not ship due to the fact that it is very temperature sensitive and if it gets to warm it can be ruined although the strips are very forgiving so we can ship those and have done so for a few years now.http://calumetmarine.3dcartstores.com/Bait_c_9.html
JWheeler Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I like the whole herring, for the simple fact you get more bang for your buck.. Not hard to brine and cure them yourself if you like. We typically just cut them up on an as needed basis right on the boat.
TCFishin Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Fished West Bay this summer and caught 7 kings on just 2 pieces of meat! Of course a little herring oil involved but you couldn't stop em. Purple-haze Flasher and a purple meat rig with also a green setup was great this year. ALL GLOW
HOOK N WOOD Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 where do you buy the blue label herring at
mattmishler Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 tangled tackle or insta launch in manistee michigan.
JWheeler Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Tackle box in Frankfort, but as the clerk there so "KINDLY PUT IT"...NOT, you have a minimum of $25 to use a credit card....
Eyefull Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Not cool about the $25 minimum. I can say that I just threw away my credit card machine and closed my merchant account. The transaction fees, service fees, and other BS makes you end up eating your margin on small sales. If you don't do tons of transactions, or operate with huge margins, CC machines are a waste of money for a small business, or at least one "Micro Small" in my case.

And if that dude up there wasn't such a jackwagon about it I may have picked up a few other spoons or plugs to get the order to $25, but when you aren't polite about things I'll be hard pressed to give you a dime.
Special K Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 JK Krystal Killer off a rigger all day long.
SUPERTRAMP Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 I just spent 3 days with Captain Keith Kloet staying at my home, he runs Lie a lot charters out of Ludington, he was here to have simple knee surgery, but I learned a lot about meat rigs that might help all here. 1 if u run meat run all meat. He has a 33 ft 121/2 ft wide Chris Craft Commander and they run 13 to 15 rods and he puts meat on all of them after the morning bite lets up. He runs it on cores, coppers riggers and dipseys. I guess my plan will change next summer when the fishing slows. He says that the idea is to get the whole water column behind your boat stunk up with the Herring smell and it triggers them. Check out some of his catches at lie a lot charters.com
mattmishler Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Something that i learned this summer is a 8incher with one fly and a meat head works great!!!!!!
