matrob Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I recently bought some older downriggers without swivel mounts. Because of the way I want to set up my boat, it would be very helpful to have swivel mounts, but don't want to lay out the cost of original ones. Has anyone built any successfully? I thought about using bar stool swivels but would need some type of locking mechanism and worry about rust. Any help would be appreciated.
GLF Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Have not built any, but I would think that you could build the mounts out of aluminum.I would use a Hand Retractable Spring Plunger for the locking mechanism. McMaster-Carr has them, but you could probably do a google search for them and might come up with a better price.
sslopok Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I went to gander mountain and bought all of their display swivels. Paid 27 for berts swivels and 39 for the traxstech 6 inch swivels. Go to your local gander and check it out.
Line Dancin Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 check ebay they had some walkers on there a few weeks ago that went for 30 each plus shipping. I know they have them on there from time to time and cheap at times. Just have to watch. also check craigslist out.
