sherman51 Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 hey guysi have alittle issue im alittle worried about. i put cannon weight retrievers on my big jon riggers with auto stop. they did seem to work ok. but they knocked the bead off the little crimped sleeve. do any of you know if this is ok?? or am i just looking for trouble somewhere down the road??someone told me to switch to the scotty retrievers. but i have 4 riggers, and would have to buy 4 retrievers and terminator kits. and i like the cannon just fine and i already have the bases mounted to my riggers. so i really need your input on this one. if i can use the cannon without any problems, then i,ll stay with them. but if you guys are having problems with them and have switched to the scotty,s and they are working for you then i will switch them out before next year.or if some of you are just using the scotty with big jon auto stops, please let me know haw they are working. thanks everybody, and good fishing.sherman
ALLEYES Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 I set my auto stop to stop the ball at the distance it is when I swing the arm up and drop the ball into the cradle. Works great and I don't need retrievers.
GLF Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 I had the pro tournaments with the auto stops and used a retriever. I do not remember what make they were, but they had a large opening for the bead to pass through. Even then, I still had to be carefull because it would not always pass through the retriever correctly and I would unspool the cable on the reel if the bead hung up on the retriever while sending it down. Care also needs to be taken with bring it up also because it can catch and will jam up at the pulley at the end of the rigger. To prevent the bead from moving up and down the cable, I puta crimp above the bead also. The problem with crimps, is that it makes a weak spot in the cable. If the cable is going to fray, it will happen at the crimp. Some people are using a speed bead with great success in place of the crimp.
