Got invited by a friend to fish aboard the Old Grin charter boat with Captain Denny Grinold yesterday morning. Captain Denny and his first mate Matt did a great job getting us right on the fish and keeping us there. We set up in 100' straight out just outside the pack of boats heading due west. Fished out to 200' straight out to about 3 miles south with the 160-180' stretch seeming to hold the most fish. Big kings up to 20#'s, large coho up to 10#'s, a large steelie around 10#'s and a small laker made up our catch. We ended up 15/21. Not bad with 4 guys on a 4 hour trip. White fishcatchers with white or green flies 60-90 down on riggers and divers, a double fishscale paddle with a white fly 80' down on the chute rigger and standard Stinger size spoons in carmel dolphin, fishhead, NBK, blue dolphin and jager bomb did the damage. It was nice to get out and let someone else do the heavy lifting for a change. Great morning on the water. One neat aspect of the trip was the camera that they have rigged up on the boat. Every time a fish hit they hit record on that camera that is mounted up on the flybridge. At the end of the trip we had 2 hours of camera time burned on a DVD to show people. I won the coveted Old Grin hat for big fish caught on the trip. If you are looking for a charter I would definitely recommend the Old Grin.
