cary mac Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Looking to get out this afternoon. Not sure what time to go. I know fishing into the nite is good but my time is limited. Has anyone fished mid afternoon and done very well?
DocPaul Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I have done well mid to late afternoon this year, what port are you fishing out of??
ALLEYES Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 It was an all day bite last weekend in Ludington.
ALLEYES Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I am leaving for Muskegon at 2:00. Fishing out of a buddy's boat this time.
j1musser Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Hope to be outta South Haven this afternoon. Afternoons have been pretty decent this year for us.
pikeman8 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 You can catch em all day long. Generally morning and evening is when I get most of the fast and furious action but mid-day I found to be steady. Last few trips I have made have been 3 or 4 till dark and have got fish right as we were settinglines. You have to be fishing to catch em!
Rascal Trophy Fishing Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Adam is quite right, at least around Ludington, the early and late in-shore bites have been mostly Herring meat rigs. As far as afternoon/middays, I always suggest offshore fishing, like 450-550 fow out deep if you have the boat/gas to do it safely. Upper 50' usually, look at your Fish Hawk for the thermal.
cary mac Posted August 27, 2011 Author Posted August 27, 2011 Thanks Guys!!!. Went out to Muskegon, Went 2 for 3. The wife could not get the net extended out so she pulled in the first one. That got her going so I got to stay a little longer. It was great.
ALLEYES Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 We went out of Muskegon also in a friends boat. Set lines about 5:30 before the 3rd line was in we hit a nice steelhead. Trolled for a bit after that with nothing til I put it on a South troll. Then we started picking at them. Ended up 5 for 9. Our best water was 215 fow. Took most hits 60 to 70 down. Black Church Revelator with a green fly and Dreamweaver Pete's Bait took all of the fish.
