Leader Storage

I like to run sliders and I use leaders that run from my dipsy's to whatever and just plain leaders when the big boys are around. But when it comes to storing them, I'm usually spending 15 minutes working out the dangled mess. Anyone have a cure?

Ya I use that round styrofoam stuff that kids use playing in the pools or lakes. You can get it at walmart in all different colors and you will need tooth picks also to make it stay put. The stuff is about 5ft long and you can cut it to the size you need. I do the samething with my flyies to.

The swim noodles that caz is talking about works well. I also use drinking straws cut into about 1 1/2 inch lengths, wind the leaders around a couple 3 fingers and slide them into the straw. Works OK, but they may still tangle a little on itself but easy to get out.

I like to use the velcro leader holders that hold either 6 or 12 leaders. They are basically a fuzzy cylinder with plastic formed eyelets along one side. You then wind your leaders around the tube and use a small little square of velcro to hold down the end of the leader. These work well for leaders without hooks. You can find these at any stroe with fishing equipment.

For flies I use the same thing as Caz, the piece of foam swim noodle works well.

i also yous this system that oakly is tooking aboat it is what the walley guys use for crawler harnsses just put the swivele on the rubber hook wind the leader on and hold it on with a rubber band no tangle and comes off really nice

I also use the straw method like Wayne said, but I may try the swim noodle method this year. Sounds like a pretty good idea. I liked using the straws cause I could keep them small and put them into a plano box.

I use the styrofoam type that are sold at sporting goods stores. They have layers so your leaders stay seperated and a loop for hanging it up. I probably could save some money utilizing the swim noodles instead though.

For flies, meat heads, crawler harness, I use finesse bags from Bass Pro. Keeps everything separated in plastic bags.

Lindey makes a nice little foam spool that hold like about 8 or 10 leaders, snells, rigs, or whatever on a spool as Capt. Levi indicates. I found that running the slit all the way around the spool with a utility knife makes these holders ideal for leaders. I rig all my leaders and have a spare spool ready for the horrors of tangle should it happen.

I have a very creative buddy that hooked me up with leader keepers for both my boats. Stop by sometime and I'll show them to you...>They are AWSOME.....

other than that I keep all my crawler harnesses on paint rollers...the cheap ones....

and all my flies I bought a bunch of little bags from Janns netcraft and keep them in a deep plano box such as the flie traps type box...but I use the baggies instead of the tubes....
