Mark Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I was at the Platte River weir this weekend and noticed a lot of really small silver fish cruising around...around 1-2 pounds. I fished an upper stretch of the river by my house and caught a couple of them. They were coho, both were males, and they appeared to be sexually mature. What happened here? They were 15" long. The other mature cohos I caught trolling in the bay were 7-9pounds, also males.
CaptLevi Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I think that a number of fish just become sexually mature before their normal life cycle is up.I have noticed more than a few Kings between 2 and 8 pounds and Coho between 2 and 4 pounds, both male and female ready to spawn off St. Joe.And there is no shortage of baitfish in our port.
