Sea Eagle Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Help!Lost my first depth raider probe off of my DR this weekend. It looks like the cable failed at the crimp for the auto stop bead that my Big Jon Pro Tournament DR’s use.Did I use a poor crimping technique?I was wondering if anyone has a better idea for rigging the auto stop bead. Would a good epoxy work to hold the bead on the DR cable?Any other suggestions?
fishy1 Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I personally used some 3m 5200 caulk and it has worked on my auto stop bead for 2 years now I alse use a clincher terminal at the end where the ball attaches
CITM Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I use Scotty "stopper beads" above and below the Big John bead. No problems yet but who knows. I've heard that Dreamweaver makes something similar to the Scotty's but I haven't seen them.
GLF Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 My cables always frayed at the crimp when I had the pro tournaments. I always checked them daily.
79Dyne Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I also had a wire come apart at the crimp and started using the Scotty bead above and below the big Jon bead. Seems to be fine and works well. Also easy to adjust if necessary
Sea Eagle Posted August 10, 2011 Author Posted August 10, 2011 Thanks to everyone. I'm going to check out the scotty beads. Thanks again
Sea Eagle Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 I ordered a six pack of the Scotty bead stops from Bass Pro last night for $4.99.Coughed up the extra $18 to get them here by tomorrow, so I could get ready for the weekend.Looks like I could have saved myself $18 if I had checked the forecast first:SATURDAYSOUTH WINDS 10 TO 15 KT BECOMING EAST. CHANCE OFSHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. WAVES 1 TO 3 FT.SATURDAY NIGHTNORTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 20 KT. CHANCE OF SHOWERS.WAVES 4 TO 7 FT.SUNDAYNORTH WINDS 15 TO 25 KT.
