luremaker Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Great to see this is still going on in my home town, but sad to say it has got a lot smaller over the years.luremaker
Twill23 Posted July 25, 2011 Author Posted July 25, 2011 It's gotten smaller because people just dont realize the quality of fishing there is to be had That and Alpena as a city is kind of breaking down.....
Paperboy1 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Someone I know went up Saturday and said there were only 2 picnic tables at the Captains tent? Maybe 15 boats?? Sound about right? That's not many boats. Nice prizes!! Cool festival and promoted to far away from Alpena either. I can go downstate and nobody has heard of it, for the most part. You don't have any of the winners names?
Twill23 Posted July 26, 2011 Author Posted July 26, 2011 I took the winner's names out of the listings.. It used to be THE BIGGEST tournament in michigan lol.. Still is the largest ladies tournament on the great lakes...It's getting better than the last 3-4 years thats for sure... Super tournament numbers were slightly down due to the 7-10ft waves forecasted on sunday which ended up being 6-8s..41miles isnt fun to run in those kinds of waves. Im not sure on the exact numbers, but normally its 30-40 boats.
Adam Bomb Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Thanks for the report on the tournament and the fishing. Very encouraging for Lake Huron anglers....If a mixed bag like that dont get your blood pumping, then you must be dead!!!! AWESOME
Playin Hooky Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 thanks for the report. It's an interesting time fishing the NE side, not knowing what's going to bite next!
chumbucket Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 yes that is a whitefish PLAYING HOOKY..... got him on a spoon and snap wieght
djpilarski Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 A new entry will be in this year. Never fished it before! Cant wait
hear fishy fishy Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I think more people will be fishing the tournament in the future as the fishing has got better over the last two years from what it was for a while after the alewife collapse. I think it needs some advertising to help out but, I don't think we will ever see it like it was years ago.Doug a warm welcome as well do you fish out of Alpena or Rock Port?
