soko44mag Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 One to three colors of lead on your downrigger, willis knot works for tieing mono to leadcore real nice.
BlueCollarOutdoors Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Let out all the core til your get to your backing. Run this as your lowest downrigger in the spread, and usually with a spoon. Some guys will run it with a flasher, but the spoon will keep that rise and fall effect leadcore has.Thats its, just make sure your driving straight when you drop it down becuase its a long stretch from the ball and has a little more chance to get into a dipsey if your off centered. It will weight a bit more with the lead, so you might have to tighten your release a touch, if you use a blacks etc>
BlueCollarOutdoors Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Didnt see that you were asking about a knot. Willis, or a tiny swivel has held up for me for 2 seasons. Also tighten up your downrigger releases a bit with an swr, its gonna drag a bit more, and I found myself resetting on false releases the first few times.
SUPERTRAMP Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 It is 1 color of leadcore and u can run it off the riggers let out the leadcore and 20 to 30 ft of backer it gets the bait below the cannon ball and helps to trigger fish that are spooked by the ball. Just tie a Willis knot by taking about 2 to 3 inches of core out of the leadcore, tie a loose halfhitch in the core and insert the backer into the hollow of the leadcore that u have just taken the coreout of then roll the half hitch down to the point it is over the backer and tighten it down then do the same on the other end of the core with about 50 ft of 20# fluorocarbon leader and u have an SWR rig.
d-fresh Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 It is 1 color of leadcore I'm pretty sure when most guys refer to a SWR, it is a 2 or 3 color leadcore. Most use a 2 color, but 3's are becoming more popular now too.
