flyman013 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Started the day trying for perch in front of the dunes and ended with two total. Marked tons of fish, but no takers. Water temps at the surface in 25-30 FOW were showing 55*F and the perch we did pull up were ice cold. We packed it up about 8pm and rigged for some trolling. Headed to 70 FOW and put a blue dolphin spoon down. Soon as the sun hit the water, BAM. My brother reeled in a brute 18lb. King! This was the first time my brother has fished since we were kids, and he ends up catching the biggest fish to ever enter our boat. He handled it like a pro too. Great time on the water. Sorry, no pics as of yet, hope to have some soon. Fish came in 60 FOW on an east troll straight out from the piers. Rigger was down 40 feet and our SOG was 2.4 with a surface temp of 73*F.
cliftp Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Thanks for the report. Those darn perch have been kind of ornery this year. I marked clouds of "stuff" perching and decided they must have been alewives.Guess I need to load the salmon stuff back on the boat.(I did find the gobies though)Paul C.
