2 times yesterday when I brought up the rigger with the depth raider probe on it the line was twisted up the cable and was not able to release the rod. The first time it had a salmon on and it happened to get into one of the other rigger lines and release that one and had to bring the fish in with rigger and the tangled line.

And when I bring it to the surface the probe spins bad as soon as it clears the surface. I am using a walker release just above the ball. Should I have the release above the probe? Any other suggestions?

I used to run my release under the probe with the same problems. Now I run a blacks about 14" above the probe. Problem solved. I just put a crimp and a bead on both sides to hold it in place to avoid any kind of another connection above the probe.

Your release does not have to go above the probe, mine don't. I use a Scotty pinch pad that attaches to the cannon ball.

I do what wild at heart does with a chamberlains. But instead of crimps that can damage the cable i am using dreamweaver downrigger speed beads. There like 3 or 4 bucks for a pack at outdoorsman. They dont move or break like the cheapy scottys do.

I use a blacks release connected directly to the cannon ball. Then I have a 12 inch cable then the probe connected to the coated cable. I have not had this twisting problem. I think the blacks releases really help. If the cannon ball spins when putting it in the water, the release does not spin and that keeps the line from wrapping around the cable. Hope this helps. Tight lines.

What kind of ball are u using????? a finned true track type ball with a offshore release or rubber band attached to a 1 foot lead off the back fin should take care of this!!!!!

Finned ball. I just don't like pinch pad releases. And I really like what I have. I just don't want anymore connections on the wire than I need.
