Turfwrench Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 A beautiful day to be out on the water. It was glass flat all day with an occasional touch of light breeze which was very welcome. The bad, the bugs. Bugs everywhere and no way to escape them. Several times throughout the day we would see fish sipping them off the water. Quite a few boats out, radio chatter was an occasional laker and steelhead. We worked a lot of different depths, from 40' out to 100'. Schools of fish were scattered about. We hit an active school in 85'. Went 1 for 3 on that batch of fish with a laker on a spoon about 10' from the bottom. Finished the day off with 2 steelhead 22' down on the rigger with a green and blue stinger size spoon. Speed 3.0 -3.2Talked to a gal at the launch that was also loading back up and they said they didn't get any fish. Was that you Heidi?
Deep Descent Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 We fished on 6-6 straight out from the trailer park. We started in 50 ft of water and worked out to 75 with no hits. We then went shallower in 40-55 ft and had a hit on 3 colors of lead on a orange spoon. Then had another hit and get off on 150 ft of copper. We lost 4 fish total but landed a coho and laker. Coho came on a bomber off a board and a nice laker on a dipsy 50 ft back. all the lures had orange and silver on them. Lots of bugs for us but smooth as glass. Besides a hit on the copper all the fish hit in the top 20 ft of water.
hfitch Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Wasn't me Turfwrench. We've got a broken leaf spring on the truck that hubby's fixing Saturday and we also have a shredded tire on the boat trailer that's getting fixed next week. Sounded like a pretty nice day to be out there, though. Wish it would have been me! Those bugs are a bugger, haha, on those calm flat days. One thing that works for us is spraying a 50/50 mix of bleach and water on the floor of the boat. Of course if you have no carpet. Keeps those little bitey flies away.

Priority1 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Bill, Thanks for the East side report. Things will just get better.
hfitch Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Mike, wet your floor down with it when you leave and keep a spray bottle of it the boat with ya for when you need to refresh it. It's not a cure all, but it does help a lot.
