Twill23 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Finally made it back to Michigan after about 3 months away at work. Weather here is prettttty bad, therefore not allowing us to get the boat wet. Decided, after being away for so long i needed to do SOME type of fishing. My best bud Kevin and I headed down to the river in Alpena to hopefully whack a steelie or 2. Not another soul was down there, which made it even more enjoyable. We fished for about an hour and a half landing one hen weighing about 5 lbs and losing 2 smaller acrobatic males. Turned out to be a GREAT day on the river!
Fresh spawn Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Nice. I caught my first steelhead from ol' 9th st, always fun to fish there.
Priority1 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 TJ, Any day on the river is better that working. Tell Kevin I said howdy. GJ fighting the bucks and landing the hen.
Grant Sadler Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Good job on the steel TJ I almost forgot about 9st been a long time 8 or9 yrs:( nice looking hen:cool: keep up the good work.
florida geezer Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Moving to Alpena from the FL heat in Sept. Will live close to the community college. Tired of catching black bass and crappie. Want to catch something else for a change. Can't get out in boat anymore, too old and stiff, just have to sit in folding chair along the river and fish now. Still have car, so can travel a ways to good spots. Any public places to set up to fish in the thunder bay river? Would rather have rapid action instead of waiting for the big ones. I have a GPS to find a spot, or you can just tell me where to go. thanks
florida geezer Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Back in FL now, but was in MI last week finalizing our housing. Nice cool weather, loved it. Crossed the TBR on Bagley street on the way to Walmart and saw a fishing platform there. Looked good to me. Saw some people fishing at different spots in that big marshy area in the river. Saw some foot bridges going over into it too. Saw the lake Huron from a distance, but never got close to it. Saw the glass bottom boat in the river heading out into the lake. Ate at Big Boy's on the TBR. Food was great. Stsayed at the Holiday Inn on north 23.Will be moving up there in Sept. Hoep to find some good fishing.
florida geezer Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Hi twill 23....Never knew that. Here in FL I have never heard of anyone sexing the fish nor keeping a count log. So that is why it sounded strange to me.Can you tell how I can find "the bank in back of the old ford garage" using google maps?I am 82 years old. Can I get a lifetime free fishing license like I can get here in FL? Anyone over 65 can get it here. Can you eat ever thing that comes out of the TBR? Or is polluted?
florida geezer Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Is that a dock going into L. Huron at the end of E. Blair St? I found it while I was on googlearth.com. Do they catch any fish off it?
