salmonquest Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 When you run a leadcore down the chute do you pull it when another rod get's hit? Do you have many instances with a tangle or getting snagged on teh core?
Killin' It Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 If I am running one I pull it.I generally ran one when fishing in close at the start of the year. mostly a 1 or 2 color, as I have moved farther out I have not been using it.
mayvillemark Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I have gotten away with just switchin the sideof the boat it was on a couple times but I have not gotten away with it alot more times best thing is to snap a board on it and get it out of the way. Nothing belongs in the chute except fish!
adrenalin Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 A core down the chute is asking for trouble, If you want a core down the chute run a swr on your chute rigger, or any rigger for that matter. It's hard enough keeping an angry king out of your boards, let alone a long line right behind your boat.
Blue82 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Late last year I had luck using a 2 or 3 color SWR rig with a 1 pound ball down the chute. This is a quick set up to get out and reel in. I hope to use this more this year.Craig
Flyboy Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Ran 300' of copper down the chute for the first time two years ago. Puts at least 2 or more fish in the box than if I weren't running it. It does get pulled in if another rod goes, as fast as your arm allows, never had any issues. Even by pulling the rod every time another fish was on, it still managed multiple hook-ups for the short time it was in the water. Am definately glad that we did that.

I like fishing by myself. I agree with the others about not fishing a chute core. in really rough days i have done it. just moved it to the side when needed, but that was on a 40' boat.
tray19682005 Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I have a 7ft beam and run riggers out side with 4 ft booms and core down chute with great success but!!! it must be pulled if another pole goes off or you will spend the next 20 min untangeling a bird nest from hell! But it is my hottest setup but 75% of my fishing is in the fall and I fish the channel alot or outside pier heads so i dont have over 50ft out with so many other boats out.Like was mentioned before theres a time and place for it, but you still have to be carefull, but it can be very, very productive!

A-Fishy-Anado Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 It can be a mess with a king on a rampage. We will do it with some experienced guys on the boat that can shake and move, but you have to be quick and it is a lot of work!!
BenLubbs Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 A lot of the guys I know and fish with run only one core and it is always down the chute. They've gotten good at it and rarely tangle and take a lot of fish on them too. If they get a fish on the rigger or dipsey the core gets moved to an outside rod holder so it it out of the way. That being said, I have always run my cores off of boards.

ChampionShip Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I don't see why you wouldn't put your long lines on boards.......I will flatline a jplug down the chute to keep it in the prop wash if steelhead are up high, but don't like a 10 clr or anything in the way for reasons already stated- fish can grab it at any time.
