GLF Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 This is for people who want a ps3, but do not want to shell out the $300 for it. Currently there are a couple of playstation models out. The fat(original) and the slim. The fat models(40gb, 60gb, and 80gb) are reverse compatable and will play ps1, ps2, and ps3 games. The slim model is not reverse compatable and will not play ps2 games. I have heard the slim will play ps1 games.....but can not confirm this. If it was me, I would keep the fat model. Here is how you get one for under $200 with a 3 month warranty. I have personally done this. Find a boken ps3 on ebay for under $70. Contact Sony to get it repaired. They will replace a fat model with a slim model for $99, or repair it for $129. The repaired or replaced unit comes with a 90 day warranty. NOTE: It needs to have a hard drive when you send it in, or it will not come back with one. Do a search on ebay for 60gb ps3 console, 80gb ps3 console, or ps3 ylod. ylod = Yellow Light of Destruction If you find one without a hard drive, dont worry. You can put a laptop hard drive in it. I put a 7200rpm 500gb in one of ours. You will spend more than the $200 if you have to purchase a hard drive. If you are REALLY lucky......you will purchase one from ebay that is "supposedly" broken, get it......and it works! I purchased an auction for 2 that were supposedly broken, got them in the mail, plugged them in, and they both worked! These both showed "Connect a controller" when turned on. After I connected the controller, they were good to go. Some of the sellers on ebay do not have a clue about what they are selling. Sony will repair it even if the void sticker has been removed. I have sent 3 in so far without the void sticker. Everyone of them was repaired, and had a new cover/shell when it was returned. They all looked brand new when I got them back! They will not repair or replace a console that has been modified.
