I like to use uni to uni knot whenever possible, it also works well to mend the Torpedo wire when you have to cut out a frayed section so you don't have to waste the wire line. Use this knot when tying leadcore to leader or backing as well.

Palomar knot anytime i can use it. Id suggest you learn to tie it. An extremely tough knot. One of the very best. For line to line, i use the back to back uni knot, lead core i use the willis, copper i use the haywire twist, wire i half hitch the swivel on and then tie and overhand knot using the tag end and the mainline. Works awesome. Way better than crimps.

I experienced the same problems when I first started out, but then I went to the palomar knot on my mono. I had been using it on my power pro for some time and tried it on the mono.

I also started using berkly 20# big game for my leaders and for any other mono set up.

I was sold on the big game when a buddy tied one end on a tree and the other end on a big stick and just kept walking back. Super strech.

I use the double uni knot, for tying swivels and terminal rigs snell knot on flys that i make, for attaching leader to lead core the Willis knot and for copper I still tie the albright knot but I do put a drop of super glue on both knots. keeps the knot from pulling out when attaching braid to the core or copper. My biggest thing is I check my leaders for rub and now I check my backer where the board attaches because I had 30# power pro break right at the board this week. Good Luck and the Grogs Knots site is a super refresher for people getting started or for old hands.
