Wasabi Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Anybody noticing any baitfish/alewifes in the coho stomachs from the recent slaughter goin on in SW Michigan waters? The dozen or so I've cleaned so far were all empty. http://www.mlive.com/outdoors/index.ssf/2011/04/collapse_of_lake_huron_salmon.html
mriversinco Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 2 weeks ago, out of the 15 I got only one had something in it. Looked like it could've been a goby or something, but it was beyond the stage of telling very easily.
Abel Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Maybe not as much bait in the lake like the DNR said. If it was there, this tim of year especialy, the Coho whould be able to find it. Maybe the bait we're putting there are the only thign there:(
Killin' It Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 every fish I have caught and cleaned has had stuff in its guts!!Lots of gobys and small perch
OldCool Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 We went on April 4th out of South Heaven, out of the 15 we caught two had gobies.
Far Beyond Driven Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 This is not uncommon this time of year. Are the fish skinny with big heads? No, we took a couple coho in March that were pushing 4# already. When the bait shows up, well, they'll find it. And if you find bait, stay on it....
jimcr Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Not from your area but I got couple here today that were coughing up what seemed to be Smelt.
