adrenalin Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Ok guys, so it seems like everyone is killing the cohos this year. Is this a better year for cohos so far than normal? We got cohos up in Wisconsin already and that's got us wondering why cause either their a month early or their are so many fish this year they don't all fit on the south end of the lake. So be honest, do you normally do this well on cohos or is it an unbelievable year? Seems like every report is a limit.
Fishwhisperer Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I would have to say that it is one of the best years ever. We normally don't get that many numbers in South Haven. St. Joe always get Coho's, but not the contestant numbers and length of time that they have been. One could only hope that it last a couple more weeks.
sjk984 Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I know I went to St Joe last year for the B blast and this year. We were 13-21 on sat in 3 hours. Last year we were 0-0 in 6 hours of trolling. And jumping all over the coast and depths. There was a big urge in the weigh ins also. most boats this year had at least 5 fish.
mj6131 Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I think there are definitely more fish, as the plants were nearly doubled from the year before, but it is also the conditions. Last year, we had that really quick warm-up, and there was really only one good fishable weekend in St. Joe for coho, then the fish shot north and west. Our first trip was around the last weekend in March, and water temps were still cold, and the fish were just starting to hit. The next weekend was the really good weekend, then the big warmup happened. Did well on kings in late April and all through May, but the early coho were a bust.
adrenalin Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 I got a feeling with this many coho around come july their will be alot of tackle laying on the bottom of the lake. Once cohos hit 10 pounds they start destroying tackle. They don't grow out of that "coho roll" thing they do and a 10- 15 pound fish rolling in your gear will snap off alot of gear.
