GLF
The new barrier and its twin are designed to operate at a maximum of 4 volts per inch to repel carp from migrating up the canal and into Lake Michigan, though the Army Corps is only operating the barriers at about half strength - a voltage not strong enough to repel small juvenile carp. The Army Corps says it is completing safety tests to operate the barrier at a higher voltage and those tests should be completed in the coming weeks. The agency doesn't believe there are any juvenile carp in the area of the barrier at this time but officials have said if they get new evidence that juveniles are in the area they will turn up the voltage. Ummmm......how do they know if a juvenile carp is in the area?
