Sea Eagle Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I just purchased two Big Jon Pro Tournament down riggers with auto stops.I have a depth raider speed/temp probe hooked up on my current manual down riggers that I want to put on my new electric down riggers. My question is - Will the auto stop trigger bead run through the depth raider spring antenna that goes on the down rigger cable OK or should I or attempt to enlarge the inside diameter of the spring antenna?Should I move the line guide with the auto stop switch further out than 1" as shown in my owners manual and install the depth raider spring antenna between the rod block and the line guide or should I shorten the depth raider spring antenna to 1"?Just looking for some advice from someone who has hooked up a depth raider on their Big Jons. Thanks
salmon hunter Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I have the depth raider on my boat with the cannons though with auto stop and i just put it on my rigger without monkeying around with anything and not a problem yet:thumb:
Nailer Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 My auto stops for my Walkers goes through the spring with the coated cable. Mine has a shrink wrap over it.
Grant Sadler Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Is the Deptraider speed and temp pickup the same as my sub-troll 900? because I don't have no problem with may cannons with auto-stop its water activated, and the pick-up spring for the 900 is about a foot from the main frame of the rigger boom, the only thing I had to do was take about 1" of coating of the cable where it makes contact with the set screw on the spool for the auto stop to work. Good luck,
adrenalin Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 when I had big jons I could not use the auto stop on that rigger because of the bead. Maybe someone that uses big jons has a way for you.
Daybreak Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 When I had a DR, I got tired of the spring real quick! There is a MUCH better way! http://www.moorelectronics.com/partsinfo/partsinfo.html Click this link. Then scroll down under the Heading of "Trolling". Look at the "Special Anntenna", part # 88-088-020-5 Its a short metal sleeve instead of a spring anntenna. It works great with the DR set-up, and eliminates any issues with beads going through the spring type anntenna. I have Scottys that also use a stop-bead and this was the answer to my problems!! Hope that helps!! Heres a pic I found....
