News Posted March 2, 2011 Share Posted March 2, 2011 The Grand Traverse Lighthouse, located north of Northport at the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula, has a history fairly typical of Great Lakes lighthouses. Abandoned by the Coast Guard in 1972, it passed among government agencies which had no use for it. Its location within the staffed Leelanau State Park is probably the biggest single factor sparing it from the vandalism which has plagued so many other obsolete lighthouses.More...
