u.p. questions

ok i am gettin married sept 17 of this year and the bride to be wants to goto the u.p. for a short honeymoon. she also agreed to trying some big lake fishing. so my question is up around marquette who is a good charter to give a call and see if they are not booked for that time. i want to get out on supieor so thats why i am thinking up that away. and any good places for some nice hiking?

Congrats Dan! Sounds like a good honeymoon plan, I would give John (Daybreak) a call. One place I have hiked around up in that area was Sugarloaf Mountain just outside of Marquette.

Congrats Dan. Like Kyle said Daybreak is great, and a frequent poster. I don't think there are that many Salmon to catch, bit the Lake Trout are plentiful. A trip to Standard Rock would be great. The area between Grand Marais and Munising Is a a great place to hike (pictured Rock National Lakeshore)

Pictured rocks to grand marais is the best as far as hiking goes and Daybreak is the guy that is going to put you on the fish in Marquette. Got to try stannard rock. It is an unforgettable experience.

Dan, feel free to give me a call anytime if you have questioins about the Marquette area. I can definatly get you out on the water in September, which is our best time of the season for near-shore Lakers and Salmon. Going to Stannard Rock that time of year may be a little testy though. I have had some years with 6-10 runs out there in September, or like last year, the winds blows like crazy for weeks and limits me to only a few runs if were lucky. We can always play it by ear and watch the weather.

There are also lots of cool short hikes near Marquette such as Sugar Loaf Mountain, Hogs Back Mountain, and Little Presque Isle, as well as Presque Isle Park and the Dead River falls. As Bromley said though, for a longer adventure and some of the best scenery anywhere in the country, the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore just East of Munising(40 miles East of Marquette) has no equal!
