GLF Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 HOLLAND -- Michigan shipwreck experts say a "treasure trove of history" in the form of a wood-hulled cargo ship has been discovered off South Haven nearly 80 years after it went to the bottom of Lake Michigan. Well-preserved remains of the SS Hennepin, a Milwaukee-built, 208-foot-long vessel that sank during an Aug. 18, 1927, storm, has been found by Michigan Shipwreck Research Associates, a Holland group that searches for and documents shipwrecks in state waters. The group also reported Friday a barge found near Port Sheldon Township and a schooner near Saugatuck. http://www.mlive.com/search/index.ssf?/base/news-31/1155968717305830.xml?grpress?NEG&coll=6
