Double Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Lead core will only get you down so deep. I prefer to only use a full core or less. I hate reeling in all the extra line. In order to get deeper without adding more lead core, some people add extra weight. When adding weight to lead core, do you add the weight to the backing next to the lead core, to the lead core, or to the leader?
McFly Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Above the core on the backing. This way you don't affect the rise/fall of the the lead core that makes it so effective. 1 ounce will get you 3-5 feet of depth depending on speed.
huntingfool43 Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 A few years ago the charter captian we went with would attach it to the lead core with a rubber band about in the middle of the lead, about 5 colors out put on weight and let out last 5 colors. When you got a fish on it was simle to just jerk the weight and break the rubber band and keep on reeling.
Satisfaxion_Gauranteed Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I've run 30' monofilament leaders in the past. If I use a snap weight, I've traditionally clipped it on the mono just below the leadcore. Is there a disadvantage to doing it this way?
