Kim S. Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Hello everyone, This is my first post. My wife and I just returned form a short vacation to Mille Lacs Minnesota. Probably due to an artic high pressure, the fishing was just fair, although we did get into about a dozen jumbo perch "12 to 14 inches" one day. We stayed in a fish house on the ice. We slept and cooked there. Ours was a basic one with gas heat and lights and was very comfortable. They also had luxury ones with satellite TV,dvd players ect. There were hundreds of these houses and some were even 2 stories! I was wondering if there are any lakes in Michigan that have these houses. I never seen them and I'm guessing thats because of a different climate, more snow and more freeze/thaw periods. Are there lakes in Michigan that these houses are used?
Nailer Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Kim, welcome to the site. I've seen the houses in U Tube Videos like your talking about, and the look really nice. I have never seen any in Michigan, but they may be out there. Did you get any pics when you where up there that you can share?
Kim S. Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 I did take a few pictures which I will try to post. I'll have my wife do it as computers and I generally don't get along. In addition to the fish houses there were also alot of wheelhouses. These are basically small travel trailers they drive on the ice. The wheels retract so that the floor is flush to the ice. Ice house rentals by the way were very reasonable. Ours was 10' x 14' slept 4 and cost $75 a day. It had four fish holes equipped with rattle wheels. You set your minnows 18 to 24 inches off the bottum and wait for the walleye to bite at night or perch by the day.
KJ pluggin Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Welcome to GLF Kim! One of the RV dealers by me sells those wheel houses, they're pretty nice units.
Sea-Mac Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 That ALMOST sounds like the kind of ice fishing even I could get into. Id still need the satellite t.v. to seal the deal.
Priority1 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Kim, A warm welcome to the GLF site. I could get into ice fishing like that.
Kim S. Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 It was a unique experience which we will definately do again. I'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow. I like to use tip ups so the rattle wheels inside the house were right up my alley.
Kim S. Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 (edited) Here are some pictures: This is one of the wheelhouses: This gives you an idea of the interior, notice the rattle wheels on each side Edited January 22, 2011 by Nailer
