I've got cabin fever and have been reading keating on kings for the 2nd time now. I am thinking about adding 2 rods this year and was wondering what you guys thought. Wire dipsey's or should I play around with the light line idea?

I have a light line rod that I use and it has caught fish for me. But not nearly as many as my wire divers. I wouldn't leave home without my wire divers.

Wire divers were hot for me also. After learning the meat program and adding wire divers to my spread it greatly increased my catch rate. My light line rigs also caught their fair share. I no longer runs spoons on line heavier than 15lb, but still keep my flasher/fly rigs on 20lb+. I find I get alot of line twist with flasher/flies on the light lines.

I would suggest adding wires as well. My wire dipsies are the fist rods to go in and are probably our hottest presentation. I also have a light line rod that I use and is a ton of fun to fight fish on. I usually deploy it as an oddball in my rigger spread and it has put a lot of fish in the boat for us.

for me wire divers are a standard every time i leave the dock. i view adding a light line setup as slightly beyond just the basic fishing setup. additional, at anytime you can take any of your current downrigger setups and simply change the line to lighter line to make a "light line setup."

i am not doubting its effectiveness, but i do wonder how much having slightly lighter line as a main line really makes a difference. if this is really a concern, and most of us believe in the effectiveness of fluorocarbon, why don't we all switch to 100% fluorocarbon?

I would add wire also , and here is another thought , change you riggers to 15 lb line of hi quality, like maxima. I used this for the better part of 15 yrs and loose very few setups, even when running big paddles deep. Just make sure you have GOOD drags.

looks like the wire divers have the nod. I do already have wire divers, but need to update the rods and reels. Question number two... Upgrades the drags in my magdas with tuna tom, or pick up some convectors for wire divers...

I have used the Convector's for wire and they worked fine. However, I do think that the drags on the Daiwa Sealines are a little smoother for wire. The price is pretty similar.

I love my convector's, but if money is short, upgrade the drags. My wire rods have Cabelas depthmaster on them. I've updated the drags with Tunas drags and now they are just as smooth as my convectors. They've made a world of difference on my magda's too.
