ynotmellow Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Hey fellas, I'm heading to whitehall this weekend to take my bro'n'law on the big pond. I've only done this about half a dozen times and wanted to see about some advice before I go. i'm driving a deepV, not too short, and handles a pretty good wave. Anyway, check my plan. I can run 4 lines, one off each ball, and two stacked. All I have are about a dozen assorted spoons and three different JPlugs. I will probably run 2 plugs and 2 spoons. I'll use GPS for my speed. Questions:How fast? How deep?Where? (like... lat. and long.) hahacolor? When? (can't get out til high noon unfortunately)Thanks, and "I'll use a cross bow when I can no longer physically pull my long bow"
JWheeler Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Keep your eye on the forecast. They changed it today. Some gales coming. Not sure about Whitehall, but where I'm looking to go they're calling for 3-6'ers. Orange spoons! We've had good luck up at little point, haven't fished there this late in the year.Good luck Be safe
EdB Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Skip the plugs and go with all spoons this time of year. Don't hesitate to throw out a high line, maybe a 1-4 oz weight and an orange spoon. 90-100 ft of water was good last weekend but shallower could be good the later it gets.
KJ pluggin Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Instead of stacking off the riggers you should think about running some leadcore or snap weights. you could run these off the back corners of the boat, but I would suggest running them off of inline boards. I would also agreed with Ed on running the spoons, but it doesn't hurt to give them a try.
onlyflyfish4vr Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Agreed...run fast ... I'd run free sliders on the riggers, and 2 long lines, or use boards if you have them. Orange something always this time of year on 1/2 the lures. I would be running one line with some type of diving minnow bait (last week that added a few to the cooler with a diving rapala). Just test it and make sure it can track with the 3.5-4.0 speed. Also I would drive a s curve pattern instead of a steady straight line.
