Tad Pole Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Was out Sunday night and took the kids out(all in there 20's) we had a pretty slow nite we took a steel head early in 112 fow on a north troll with a agent orange 55 down on a rigger. then we trolled out to 225 fow because nothing was happening, and after we got there nothing was still happening so we turned around again and went back in and we took the last fish in 112 fow(DOH) a small 5 pound king, on a 7 color lead with a do-de-ka moonshine. Ok the steelhead was a good 5-6 inches longer than the king and wieghed less by bout a half pound, i havent seen a fish like this one before it put up ZERO fight and it looked like a really overweight person that has lost alot of weight. I was even more surprised when i cleaned her, her eggs all looked like empty corn husks?? anybody else seen this what was wrong with that fish? the meat looked all pale grey and real mushy i tossed it out.
jimbobber Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 if it was the steelhead maybe it was a skamania that went up to spawn but did not lay her eggs or somethng, then returned to the lake?Sounds wierd! Probly did the rite move by not eating her tho.
jumbojake Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 maybe it was a fish that had spawned if it was the steel.skams do that dropbacks ther nick names i belive.turn squishy as far as table fair goes. if it was the little king thats crazy either way ,good efort good choice on lettin that one go a.steel dropbacks fight hard in river and lake but get yecky as far as table fair goes.kings that small should be firmer flesh wise then a drop back kings, do not drop back they spawn then they die.
