GLF Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 SAUGATUCK -- Around 7:30 Tuesday night, a 25-year-old Wyoming man who was fishing off the south pier where the Kalamazoo River meets Lake Michigan in Saugatuck jumped into Lake Michigan to cool off. Strong currents and big waves contributed to the man becoming tired and unable to swim back to the pier. The victim's friends used fishing poles and fishing line to try and save him. The man was able to grab the fishing lines but became too tired and went under the water.Allegan County dive teams found the man's body a couple of hours later. His name has not been released. Authorities think the victim's family lives out of the country.
too deep Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 There are always people doing this off Ludington. A lot of them are little kids too. Who would let their kid jump 8 feet off a pier into 25' of water with huge chunks of concrete and boats flying around? I just don't get it.
