Billy V Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Kevin and I left Shawn's Marina at 6:00am and went out to the waypoints I had from earlier in the week...a bit east off of Moon Beach. The forecasted 1-3's were more like 3-5's. Put the probe down....Where did my temp go??? I had 70 degrees with as much as 135' of cable out. I ran out 150' and put her in neutral so the probe would hang straight down, and I found 54 degree water....ugh! Not what I had in mind with waves like that! The screen was pretty much devoid of fish & baut with the exception of a few stray marks here and there. It was so nice earlier in the week with 50 degrees down 50-75'! We trolled out to 200' and found more of the same warm water. I thought about motoring out to 500', but decided not to since we only had until 9:00 to fish and neither of us wanted to get beaten up that bad. We messed around out in 200' for a while before I decided to move inside to see if the temp had moved there. We got set up in 80 FOW and the Hot Rod Habanero fires and Kevin lands this nice brown: That fish came off the 75' rigger. We gave it another 45 minutes or so, but pulled it up and headed in at 9:00am. Prolly a good decision, as most guys I talked to didn't do very well all morning long. I got out on Sunday by myself for a couple of hours and made the decision to stay inside again. It was blowing out of the NE and was 3' or so...not too bad, but I really wasn't into running way out to 500' by myself given what I'd seen the day before out to 200. I set up just a bit west of the chute in 50 FOW and within 5 minutes had a double on browns. The Hot Rod Habanero and Lazer Glow Spook both fired simultaneously. I ended up landing both fish. 65' and 60' off the riggers in 65 FOW. 5# and 7#. What a fire drill that was. No auto pilot, headed into a NE wind, doubled up. It's been a while since I've fished alone and I forgot how hard it can be to land fish by yourself! I found the same lousy temps in there as I did the day before. I gave it an hour or so more time, and no more hits. I decided to head in at 8:00 to have breakfast with my wife and kids. I forgot the camera, so no pics. Bill
GLF Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 OK....I have not seen these spoons yet and I am going to bite. Must be good. Hows about a peek at these spoons you mention all the time?
Billy V Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 OK, here they are: Original Habanero Lemon Habanero Red Hot Habanero Grape Habanero Lazer Glow Spook #8 Car I'm not in full production just yet...mostly been testing this season. But word leaked out about the spoons a few weeks ago, and I've been selling a few. They're available online at www.shawnsmarina.com, or if members of this forum want some, they can PM me. Bill
GLF Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I do not know how they catch fish. They dont have any hooks on them Nice looking spoons Bill!
Billy V Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 You see, I'm from Ithaca, NY...home of more liberal, tree-loving earth muffins than you knew ever existed. So we've developed a new hook-less method for catching fish...just to appease the bleeding-hearts here in town. ;)
