Squeezed in a short trip last night after the winds calmed. We hit the lake around 7:30 and searched for the cold water. Started in 130 fow and trolled ssw with a temp of 48 degrees 80 ft down. Hit 150 with no joy so headed w. Took first hit on 300 copper pulling monkey puke in 202 fow. The board dove underwater and before we could get it up, fish was gone. Still writing our miss in the log and a dipsy 210 back with a JP slammer NBK goes, nice king. Went to 215 and turn heading e. 212 fow the NBK dipsy fires again, another nice king. Then everything shut down. Pulled lines at 9:45 and found a 3# shaker king on the copper . The fish never wiggled the rod pulled the board, nothing. Ended the night 3 for 4. The lake had settled nicely, leaving some rollers, but that was it. It was lonely out there too. I think there might have been 5 boats and there wasn't anyone around us when we caught fish :P. Nice night on the water.

Thanks Mark. Yeah we were watching and hoping and around 5 it started to calm. Checked an hour later and things were starting to settle, so we piched the gear in the boat and took off.

I heard someone on the radio say they were 7 for 8 in the 4-5 foot waves in the am. I'm sorry, I love to fish, but no fish is worth compromising my safety. I don't know maybe they had a 25+ ft boat.

I understand. I have a 19 ft, so you can see why I made the statement. You have a crew? I'm jealous! Just Dad and me 99% of the time. Occasionally Mom, sister or sister's fiancé comes with. Oh well, as Tevye said, "If I were a rich man ...."

I have a 22' boat and have fished in the 4-5'ers but not on purpose. It just isn't that much fun. If the weather report looks good and we head over we usually give it a shot, unless there is thunder. Since I have a 2+ hour drive if I make the trip over I like to try to fish. But I've gone out, done a lap, and headed back in before. Like you said, no fish is worth risking your safety and I don't like to be miserable out there.
