cannon snt antenae

I cut the spring/antenae pick up on my snt to remove the downrigger. I had a diagram and the part number that was supposed to get it back together. Of course I can't seem to find them anymore. Has anyone found a connection to splice the coax back to the spring? I cut it so there is about an inch or two of straight metal coming off the coil. Apparently I need this spelled out like I'm in third grade since I've tried three different connections and can't get this stupid thing working again. Thanks. Of course pictures are appreciated.
