det07 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Want to know how many feet of 125lb wire will fit on my Cannon Mag 10's thinking about ordering 800-1000' for each. They come with 250ft of 150lb test and there is tons of room left on the spool.
1mainiac Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Cannon offers 400ft spools which is plenty and what I have on my port rigger. Yes you could put way more on however you need to keep in mind the line counter only counts revolutions of the wheel not actual line out so the more you put on the spool the less accurate the counter is. With 100 on the counter my Big Jons put out close to 110ft of line with 400 on the spool Strangly enough my Starboard rigger with 300 ft of coated cable is much more accurate because even though the spool size is bigger the thicker cable seems to compensate for the difference.
pikeman8 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Why do you want that much line? There is no need to have more much than 400' no matter how much it can hold. Even at that depth you would need a 20 + lb ball to keep your blowback to a minimum. I have 400' on all my diggers and have never needed more. And like Mainiac said the more line you put on the less accurate the line counter.
mayvillemark Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 The line will be garbage by the time you use that much!
mayvillemark Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 to fish 500 down you would need like a 25-39 lb cannonball or it would look like a dipsy with all the blowback!
det07 Posted August 5, 2010 Author Posted August 5, 2010 http://www.in-fisherman.com/content/depth-no-barrier-kingsWell I probably wouldn't do it very often but according to this article it looks like it can be done...
