bdunn73 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Does anyone use this setup and if so are your results good? I'm new to the game of Great lakes fishing. Long time Striper fisherman from the east coast (Delaware). If someone could give me some insight I would greatly appreciate it. With just flies or can I use spoons also.Thank you.
bdunn73 Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 It is suposed to say flasher/dodger I'm sorry for the spelling.
Steve Arend Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I have never really had good luck with a flasher/dodger off of the Lead core. My most productive baits off of core have been spoons and J-Plugs.
DangerDan Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I'll run a flasher/squid setups off of fullcore. When running other shorter corlines I only run a flahser off the longest line. I learned that one the hard way . I have had success with that setup.
J J Mac Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Spin Doctor/fly or fish catcher/fly combos fished off lead core or copper work well when the fish are at the level the baits are presented at. They can be pulled with in-line planer boards too.
bdunn73 Posted July 25, 2006 Author Posted July 25, 2006 Thanks for the insight. Back home we don't have the depth of water so we usually run shallow umbrellas. This downrigger lead core stuff is quite different. Once again thank all of you for the help.
tgafish Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I have a friend that swears by running flasher/flies off the core. I can honestly say I've never tried it though. Can't bring myself to take the ghost J-plug off the core. That has been my goto rig the last 18 monthes. Before that it was a mag dbl orange crush fishing the endzone.
SkeinMachine Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Use a short leader off the core(15-20 ft)to minimize the lift effect from the rotator/dodger.Same short leader theory applies to copper.
