caznik Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 About two weeks ago I came home from work in the morning and when I happen to pull in the driveway I seen 2 hens and around 50 baby turkeys. Man that was a pretty cool site to see, more turkeys for me to hunt in the future. Well what I like to know is? Do these baby turkeys when they are about 6in high, can they fly in the trees when they are suppose to roost. I remember about 5 years ago I was working in my back yard and I had my german shorthair loose with me. I started hering all kinds of turkeys flying around in the woods behind my house. Well about 3 minutes later here come my dog with a baby turkey in here mouth still alive. I took the turkey away from her and the baby took off. I just wonder if my dog can catch a baby turkey. I wonder how many baby turkeys get killed by coyotes to. Caznik
DIRTY DOG Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 i was told that young turkeys can fly at around 1 weeki dont no if it is true or not
huntingfool43 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Saw a hen tonight with 7 little ones, about 8" tall and they all flew off from the road. I think yotes cause more problems by killing hens that are setting. Had a hen last year that I was keeping an eye on, she had a dozen eggs in her nest and something killed her and all the eggs were destroyed too.
