Coldy Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I am going to buy a Bow Mounted Electric Motor sometime this year, an eying off the Jarvis Walker Watersnake Electric Motor Bow Mount 54lb Thrust NewNew Remote Model for around * Model - SWRT54/48 Remote * Includes 2 Remote Controls * 54lb Thrust * 12 Volt * Variable Speed Foot Control With Left & Right Directional Control * Bow Mount * Composite Main Shaft * Shaft Length 48" * Saltwater Resistant * Anti Twist 3 Blade Propellor Prevents Clogging During Operation * Amp Draw (up to 48 amps at full speed)Perfect for trolling and would suit boat lengths over 4 metresMy Boat is a Jabiru 380 $720 Australian Dollars. It seems to me they are nicely priced compared to the top end of market as i want the remote control options, for immediate function-abilityMinn Kota Powerdrive are highly recommended the there price seems extremeOf cause then you have to purchase the deep cycle battery & a multi stage charger to charge it guessing about $400 for jarvis Waker & $600 for Minn Kota.Any help would be great. Cheers Coldy:thumb:
Mister Ed Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Not sure of your boat length or if it glass or aluminum. Not familiar with the Jarvis Waker being over here in the States. My boat is a little over 5 meters and aluminum. I have on it a 24v 70lb thrust Minn Kota with a 60" shaft (I think ... it is the longest one they make). I upgraded from an old MinnKota 12v, 36lb and 48" shaft. Best thing I ever did.Longer shaft means less the motor is less likely to pitch out of the water in waves. Higher voltage gives you much greater staying power. And the extra thrust is valuable in the wind/waves ... never have too much power.
