slickwater Posted May 29, 2010 Author Posted May 29, 2010 Well i got a leadcore set up today. I got a fullcore. Shakespeare Arsenal reel and a med.action blue diamond downrigger rod(I think),it is in the barn right now. Thanks for all of the advice but I had to buy what I could afford.I just hope the rod is not to lite.
bmsstp4u Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 the cabelas set up are nice rod and reel for 60 or so , not sure who makes them for cabelas but have used them with no problems.
Just Hook'n Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I like the 8'6" okuma classic rods. Good action for leadcore. I do run 9' with a little more backbone on full core, but if I had to do it over I think I would probably just get all 8'6" rods. If you are fishing 20+ times a year I would run Convectors, but I know you said keep it cheep. That being said I like the comment about the 452classic okumas. I just don't like the magdas. I know people that have sucess with them, but I am not one. I've stripped gears on big fish. OK, so I could probably work the drag, but my experience is not good so i will stick with what works for me. THAT being said, everyone has something that works for them.
Yankee Troller Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 If you don't mind spending some money look at the high speed Saltist. Especially for your longer cores. We have been very pleased with them. Makes changing out lures much more easier and less tedious.
