salmonquest Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 By some terrific good fortune a friend of my dads gave us a 7.5 Merc. long shaft with electric start. Now we have to mount it. It came with a bracket that will raise and lower. Do you think it would be best to mount it on the bracket or on the transom? Thanks for the input. This is the best picture I have of the back of the boat.
Adam Bomb Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Its gonna depend on how much room you have there on the transom cut out. You gotta have enough room to steer when the kickers not in use. If not, youll need to mount it on flat back of the transom with the appropriate style bracket. On our boat we had to go to the flat back of the transom and used a Panther Mount.Be mindful of the waterline when choosing your heighth. Dont wanna get too high as the prop will be coming outta the water in rougher conditions. And dont get it too low or itll drag when on plane depening on how high the bracket lifts the motor. We backed ours with a 1/4" aluminum plate that matched the footprint of the kicker mount to give it lots of support. And to connect the steering we have the EZ Steer system. On our set up we never remove the EZ steer.
