cliftp Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 What does everyone use to lube their pedestals so they don't seize up in the floor receiver. Fishing over on the Detroit River Thursday and wanted to move the seat and couldn't. Got them broken loose this afternoon using some WD 40 and lots of taps on the pedestal. Is there a good lube to use?Oh, we got five walleyes, mostly south of the Wyandotte boat launch, with two by Mud Island. (two fishermen)Thanks.Paul CMattawan, MI
bluedevil Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 I can tell ya one thing not to use and that is any type of oil. The first time I used some air compressor oil that I had and it turned black when dirty and then it seems like it got everywhere. Took me forever to get rid of the oil. Been thinking about using cooking oil cause wd40 just don't last very long.
Priority1 Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Gj on the walleye. On the Seat pedestal I would use a thin coating of silicon grease.
Nailer Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 The weather most likely didn't do you any favors at Wyandotte. Try a heavy coat of Wax, like past wax.
NO MO BEGGEN Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 if it were me id use petrolium jelly for the fact it dont have much of a smell if any in the case it gets on your hands or lures
5 for Fight'n Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 use a molly grease. it's black but will not spread where you don't want it. after you apply it (with a brush), wipe all areas that it got where you don't want it.
moto21 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I use vasoline. Little smell and easy to get off hands and equipment.
cliftp Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 Lots of stuff to try. Thanks everyone.Paul C.Mattawan, MI
salmonquest Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Try a spray on silicone or if you want it dry graphite powder. amazing how well that works. Heck take a thick pencil and give it to a young kid and let them start coloring
FISHSTALKER Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Go to the auto parts store and ask for a stick of hinge grease. It looks like a large crayon and seems more like a wax than a grease. It stays put and does'nt get messy or have odor.
