salmonquest Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 My dad and I fish out of a 17.5' grady white.I have found a good deal on a 4hp yamaha motor. I'm curious if this will push us in the 1-2 category for trolling for walleye. Thanks for the input.
Paulywood Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Can you find out how much thrust it delivers versus the weight of your boat? I know GW's are a pretty heavy, well built boat. The only time I have seen guys use kickers that small have been on smaller tin boats. It's hard to pass up a good deal but bigger would definitely be better if you can find one.
mayvillemark Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 We are walleye fishermen and we run a 5 hp on 22 foot aluminum I am guessing your grady is about the same weight it would probally work for walleye because if there is any waves you would be going with them but I dont seeit as much for helping you get in if the big motor wont start!
Nailer Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 That's a good sized boat. I would think a 9.9 would be better.
salmonquest Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 Yeah that's what I was thinking it's a good deal so maybe I'll work it out for our row boat. Thanks for the input.
Adam Bomb Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 It will do it, but im sure youll be working it hard. I think a 9.9 would serve you better. Nice to have a little more power if your in rougher conditions or your main ever lets you down.
