GLF Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 When trolling for walleyes after dark, how far off the bottom(rough idea) are you targeting your baits? Do you have any luck with shallow diving baits running just below the surface?
ALLEYES Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Most people troll in less than 14 fow. So getting down to em isn't a problem. When they are shallow like that they are there for one reason and one reason only....to put the feed bag on. When they are shallow they are feeding, normally pretty aggressively. If they want to eat your bait they will come up to it. I would concentrate on #12 and #14 Husky's.

Walleye Express Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Like Pike, a walleyes eye's are located on the top of his head. In general, their line of sight is even with and above their chin. They have to physically adjust their body's (tail up) to see anything flat on the bottom. They are geared to attack from below in most cases. And look for the silhouette of baitfish swimming above them, especially at night. So running them shallow and above them is always the best idea.
