So tonight was the last trip of the season for us. The boat ran fine going out trolling all evening until i started back in to port. I have a bayliner with a 350 chevy engine and a volvo penta aq series outdrive. After running in almost to the pierheads at 300 rpm the engine reved up and the boat just about stopped in the water. I tried to throttle up a little and all it did was rev and only move at 2.7 mile an hour. We made it all the way to the docks and when i put it in reverse it poped right in and had great power in reverse. when i put it back in forward it just kind of started moving very slowly ahead. if i tried to do throttle past just putting it in gear all it would do is rev and not move any faster. Any ideas what is going on with my boat???

I have an alpha one and had to replace the coupler. When the coupler went bad on mine, it would not go foreward or reverse. I am not sure about the volvo drive drive works.

Your out drive has a cone type clutch my guess is the bearing whent bad causing the cone to slip... the AQ out drive is very touchey an more complicated than most any other outdrive...Find some 1 that has a VERY GOOD REPUTATION for working on the volvos..i have had to deal with a few nitemares that have came into my shop due to some 1 thinking that they new what they were dueing...

thanks everyone for the info. i got very lucky turns out that i just busted the hub loose on the prop. so a new hub and a quick repair and balance. 120 bucks and it is all fixed. thank God i wasn't running hard otherewise there would have probably been more damage. They pulled the access covers drained the outdrive pressure tested it, and everything looks good. So it is now put up for the winter. I can't wait till spring to get it out and run it again now.
